Our Mission

CyclingCalorieCalculator.com exists to give cyclists at every level an accurate, instant, and beautifully simple way to understand their calorie burn — without confusing jargon or cluttered interfaces.

Whether you're a weekend leisure rider or training for a gran fondo, knowing your energy expenditure helps you eat smarter, train harder, and achieve your goals faster.

🔬

The Science

Every estimate uses the MET formula:
Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Duration (hrs)

MET values are sourced from the Compendium of Physical Activities (Ainsworth et al., 2011) — the peer-reviewed gold standard used by exercise scientists and sports nutritionists worldwide.

Fitness Level Modifiers

Fitter cyclists are more metabolically efficient — they burn fewer calories at the same speed than beginners. Our calculator adjusts for this:

LevelModifierWhat It Means
🟢 Beginner×1.1 Less efficient — burns slightly more per session
🔵 Average×1.0 Baseline — no adjustment applied
🟡 Fit×0.9 More efficient — burns slightly less
🔴 Elite×0.85 Maximum efficiency — lowest calorie burn per watt

📏

Accuracy & Limitations

MET-based estimates are accurate within ±15–20% for most cyclists. Actual calorie burn varies with wind resistance, elevation, bike weight, drafting, and individual metabolism.

For maximum precision, use a cycling power meter and convert kJ of mechanical work to kcal (multiply kJ × 0.239).

⚠️ CycleCalc is a fitness estimation tool, not a medical device. Results should not be used for clinical nutrition planning or medical decision-making.
